BRUNO KUKUJUK
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bruno Kukujuk, who passed away suddenly in his home of a probable stroke. Bruno was a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier and York University, a dedicated high school teacher and a respected football and wrestling coach in Oshawa. He was a passionate sailor and an active member of the Whitby Yacht Club since 1974. MORE

EAST END LONG DISTANCE RACE SERIES
There has been discussion about starting an “East End Long Distance Race Series”. The Whitby 50 was the first event with boats from WYC and FBYC participating. As discussed, FBYC will “host” a second race in this series. The proposed date for the FBYC 50 is September 17th. Contact John Latour - This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
CLUB CRUISING UPDATE - Shawn Brayman
Wow, what a great summer and six great cruising events already under our belts – two more to go.  This weekend we have the cruise to Youngstown with another great group signed up.  There is still time to join the festivities if you are looking for something to make this Labour Day special!  Contact Tal at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or myself if you would like more information.  September 25/26 will be the Die Hard Cruise to Ashbridge’s Bay.
Keep in mind that this year we have a new trophy for “Ports of Call” for the cruisers that have visited the most ports over the season – make sure you keep track in your log.  A second change this year is for the Cruising Pennants which any cruiser that has participated in four or more of the eight cruising events will be awarded.  According to my records there are at least 18 members that could be eligible based on attendance to date and what they have signed up for the final two cruises.  If you have already attended two or more cruises keep this in mind!
DSC RADIO AND MMSI NUMBERS
Several members have now installed the new VHF DCS radios and applied for MMSI station numbers. It is a significant benefit to know which of your fellow members have MMSI numbers and what the numbers are. To this end, a field is available in "your profile" and also a search field in the members list so that you can print off a list. The Club Number is 031600036.

THE LITTLE AMERICAS CUP - C CLASS CATAMARAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Canadian yacht designer Steve Killing designed both Canaan and Alpha which came first and second in this year's C Class fleet racing. Alpha won the Championship for Canada in 2007 but this year she was sailed by Australians and won second place.

The new boat, Canaan, won a decisive victory for Canada with four firsts in six races. This is a major achievement for Killing and the racing team of Fred Eaton and Magnus Clark  in a class that had been dominated by the US for eleven years.

Great Britain was third in Invictus while Patient Lady VI (France), Aethon (USA) and Orion (Canada) all had varying degrees of mechanical problems.

Canaan went on to win the match racing against Alpha to successfully defend her title. RESULTS
