Board Member Change
It is with regret that I announce Reg Hirst's resignation as Social Director from the WYC for personal reasons. Reg will continue to assist the social committee until a new director is appointed. We appreciate his dedication, organization and hard work for the wonderful WYC events we have enjoyed for the past few months. Thank you, Reg.

The social committee will continue to implement their planned events and we look forward to these good times.

Social Committee Update
The "Scotch Nosing and Robbie Burns" night was a real hit due to the wonderful host and his helpers, the tasty food (including Haggis), the Scottish wit, and of course, the Scotch. Thank you to Mike and Doreen Allen, Tom Sharpe, Brian McCuaig, Wendy Daw, Syl Dorricott, and Marge Stewart for a well-organized and memorable event. Mitch looked spiffy in his duds.

At 7 pm this Friday, Euchre night begins. Enjoy an evening of calling trump, playing suits, and picking up tricks. Organized by Geoff Daw and Syl Dorricott, the Euchre competition will start after TGIF dinner. Bring you own games, if you wish. Let's make it an exciting night.

Feb 5 is the Super Bowl game. The re-match of New York vs. New England promises to be a fiercly fought game for victory. Pizza will be served at half-time. The board is almost filled, so if you wish to buy a ticket, please go to the bar on Wed or Sat night and fill in a spot for $1 per square.

A Valentine's event is planned for Fri, Feb 10 after dinner. Please sign-up on the bulletin board downstairs or call/email the office to register your attendance.

Tues, Jan 24 Invitation from Frenchman's Bay Yacht Club
Derek Hatfield is one of Canada's most successful competitive yachtsmen and he will be presenting his incredible stories of solo racing around the world aboard an Open 60 yacht. The bar will open at 7 pm, and Derek's presentation begins at 8 pm. We would love to see some of our neighbors for this inspiring presentation.

Winter Sail Program
This Wednesday, Shawn Brayman will present an overview of the WYC's cruising program at 7 pm. The 2012 schedule will be presented along with an update on the Lake Ontario Club Cruising Association.

Antrim House Update
So far, only three members have signed up despite email, web, and bulletin board announcements. Consequently, the trip to Antrim House in Port Perry scheduled for March 7 is cancelled. It will be replaced with the following program:

Great Naval Battles that Changed History
On Wed, March 7 at 7 pm, Barry Fleet will share his naval knowledge of battles such as Trafalgar, Tsushima, Atlantic and Midway. Barry is a nuclear engineer with OPG, and a retired Royal Navy officer and submariner. Don't miss this presentation about great nautical minds at work.

The Highland Yacht Club is hosting a series of informative seminars presented by renowned sail-makers UK Halsey.

Mission Accomplished
The new floor in the front lounge is finished! A HUGE THANKS to all who gave their time towards completing this project - the Kiersteads, Tom Sharpe, John LaTour, Martin Hunt, Eileen Paul, Jim Stewart, Paul Kerr and last but not least, Wade Warren. A fantastic job from a fantastic crew.

The floor is still curing, so please be respectful of all this hard work and use the club's east entrance until further notice. Paul Kerr will be applying a floor sealant this week to ensure longevity.
